Fostering Design Culture and Creative Empowerment

We were seeing a need to empower and inspire the existing Experience Design Talent Community and its new joiners after a challenging time working during the pandemic. Hence D2D was born.

Dare2Disrupt was a monthly speaker series with experience leaders, change makers and disruptors from around the world where we aim to unveil how they approach and disrupt the traditional paradigms of leadership, culture, business, and design.

Topics included:
– The future of human-centered design
– Cultivating creativity and disruption
– Motivation and inspiration toward change
– Building acumen and confidence in craft
– Understanding of what design leadership means
– Finding and building your voice with stakeholders

Highlighting XD Team Talent

Big Ideas come from anyone

Still a relative ‘newbie,’ a junior UX Designer, Tridz Banjeree asked “How can I make an impact?” He wanted his talented colleagues to feel re-inspired, re-energized, and empowered, while giving them opportunity to shine. He also saw a huge opportunity to “make some noise in other TCs globally.

Tridz didn’t yet have a wide network and deep relationships within Avanade. He shared his observations about the XD community with others, but a post on the XD Teams channel by Michelle Petrie, North America XD TC Lead, really lit the spark. Armed with data, insights, and the germ of an idea, Tridz reached out Michelle, someone he’d never met.

Michelle, who calls herself “a matchmaker for ideas and people,” loves empowering others to think boldly and not let logistics, hierarchy or process hinder them. And as a matchmaker, she pulled Tridz into an impromptu call with Kevin Cale, Francesca Tassistro, Global XD TC Lead, and Justin Calvo, Executive and Global Studios Lead. Michelle recalled how Tridz was intimidated by his audience and not his usual animated self: “I told him ‘Your level doesn’t matter! We need bold ideas, and we need people to know they can bring bold ideas to leadership.”‘

That was April 15. One day later, Tridz pitched a detailed proposal. Within a week, a (modest) budget and team were assigned .

Episode 1 of Dare2Disrupt debuted on June 3, 2021 to a global audience of about 250 designers and non designers, analysts, executives, and recent graduates who represented the future of Avanade.

Each episode was produced by a tribe of creatives and risk-takers who volunteered their time to advance the practice and champion their peers.

“This is the kind of innovative thinking and execution our brand needs to keep us future-proof. We need more ideas and more experiences like this.“
